About the artwork

Thin scored lines and runnels of paint are worked into the surface, so parts of the skyline only appear after a longer look. The subject is a town reduced to tall, faceted building forms, with the title Summer In My Town pointing the image toward a city seen through memory instead of strict outline. Those vertical shapes sit across the upper middle band while a dark, undulating ridge cuts through the center and a deep green base holds the bottom edge. Some forms almost disappear. Others stand forward as pale shards and charcoal blocks, because the artist stacked translucent washes over sharper edges and then pulled marks back out with scraping, dripping, and dry linear drawing. The palette stays close to mustard yellow, olive, sage, gray, and blue green, with a few darker accents that keep the scene from flattening into one field. And the yellow upper ground gives the buildings a dry summer heat, while the cooler lower bands make the paint feel damp and weighty at the same time. The surface reads as matte with visible layering and fine vertical drips.
