About the artwork

A serene mood settles over the image because warm light rests on the jeweled crown, the smooth face, and the thick white garlands. The technique is close-up color photography, likely made with a shallow focus that keeps the idol crisp while the dark columns behind fall soft. Fine beadwork across the trunk, tiny red floral accents, and the reflective gold surfaces stay sharply legible, and that contrast makes the lit areas feel even richer against the brown-black background. The subject is a devotional portrait of Ganesha, shown from a near frontal angle with the curved trunk, one visible eye, and layered ornaments filling most of the frame. And the crop is tight enough that the figure feels monumental, with only a small glimpse of a lamp and the recessed interior at the edges. Gold dominates the palette, followed by cream, red, and warm skin tones, while the shadows stay deep and keep the bright metalwork from flattening out. The image surface reads as photographic and glossy.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tejas Athalye

Tejas Athalye

I see photography as a way to capture emotions and express what I cannot always put into words. Driven by curiosity, I'm drawn to nature, street scenes, fleeting moments, and the richness of Indian traditions. I photograph what catches my eye or makes me feel something. For me, every frame is a reflection of how I see the world, and perhaps, a way of understanding myself a little better.
