About the artwork

The garland is one of the first details that settles into view, its red, yellow, green, and dark bands falling across the chest before the eye returns to the face. Shiva sits squarely at the center of the painting, cross legged on a rocky base, with the trident rising on one side and a small drum lifted on the other. Behind the figure, pale mountains stack upward in a tight backdrop that keeps the form fixed in place. The title Shiva Kailash fits what is shown. The subject is devotional and frontal, with a composed expression, closed or lowered eyes, long hair, necklaces, and a snake looped around the neck. It reads as an icon like portrait more than a natural scene. Blue dominates the ground and sky area, while the mountains shift through gray, white, and charcoal. But the warmer gold tones in the body and the multicolored garland stop the image from turning cold, and the dark outlines around the arms, face, and objects keep each shape easy to read at a distance. The acrylic handling looks matte with visible brush texture across the blue field and softer blending in the mountains. Edges are drawn firmly, then filled with thin to moderate layers of paint, so the surface has some grain and slight unevenness in bad light. Hang it where the centered figure can face straight on, ideally on a clear wall in a pooja room or a quiet living area.

Madhura Krishnakumar

Painting is my passion. Painting fills me with energy while at the same it relaxes and soothes me. Initially I learnt it as a hobby but I found it so interesting that I kept on learning new & different techniques of different cultures. Soon I started decorating my house with my paintings. I prefer painting God, Goddesses and Nature as I believe there is a divine power all around us and I want to see this power in a tangible form.
