About the artwork

The dark boat canopy near the lower left is one of the first details that settles the eye after the temple spires. Its rounded shape and dense shadow set off loose brushwork across the water, where thin vertical marks for mooring posts and broken reflections keep the surface active without making it fussy. The handling looks painterly and layered, with softened edges in the distance and firmer lines around the shrine roofs and steps. The palette stays within brown, beige, ash gray, and small touches of saffron on the flags and one seated figure, which gives the riverfront a hushed warmth. A cloudy sky and pale water hold the brightest values, while the buildings gather darker accents along windows, domes, and stair edges. And that contrast helps the bank feel solid against the open water, even though much of the scene is built from thin washes and dry-looking strokes. The title Sacred Riverfront Ghats fits what is shown: temple structures, stone steps, boats, and scattered people along the edge of the river. The subject leans more toward place than portrait, with the architecture carrying most of the weight and the figures used to set scale. This will sit best on a medium to large wall where the stepped shoreline and clustered towers have enough distance to read clearly. The surface appears matte with visible canvas weave.
