About the artwork

Loose brushwork softens the edges of the stone and lets the water carry the sharpest contrast, so the painting reads with more depth than its simple layout first suggests. Thin grey washes veil the far structures, while firmer strokes build the tower, steps, and reflected bands in the pool. The title Sacred Ghat In Golden Light anchors the scene in a riverside temple setting with stepped ghats, domed shrines, a tall spire, and scattered figures moving along the edge. Small human forms keep the architecture from feeling rigid, and their scale makes the stair run appear long, wide, and worn by use. This will sit best on a main wall where the vertical tower has room to rise and the reflection can read from a few steps back, though a narrow hallway could crop the calm spread of water at the lower right. And the muted grey blue field keeps the piece from turning heavy, even with the dark temple mass on the left, because the yellow tower lifts the whole scene with a clear column of light. Cool stone greys, smoky blue, and pale white hold most of the surface, then a concentrated yellow flare strikes the tower and drops straight into the still water.
